2016 NABA Tentative Field Dates
February 27, 2016 Anza Borrego State Park,, Eastern San Diego Co., CA.
Meet at Wendy’s Restaurant located at the west corner of Alicia Parkway and the I-5 Freeway in Laguna Hills, CA., at 7:00 a.m. sharp. We will car caravan down to Anza Borrego Desert State Park and arrive around 9:00 a.m. We will probably return to Orange County late depending on if the group wants to have dinner in Julian or other location. We will explore the canyons and washes for many early spring butterflies such as the stunning Sonora Blue, California Patch, Desert Swallowtail, and the Brambles Hairstreak. Early spring wildflowers should also be on display. Moth lovers will delight in the dayflying but seldom seen Phaeton sphinx.March 26, 2016 Caspers Wilderness Park.
Meet at Caspers Wilderness Park Entrance Gate at 9:00 am. Caspers Park is located off Ortega Highway (Hwy 74). Rain Cancels. 2-3 miles of moderate ridge and canyon bottom hiking. Breakfast at 7:30 am at Bravo Burgers, located off Rancho Viejo Road, San Juan Capistrano, CA for those who want to meet earlier. April 16, 2016 San Gabriel Canyon, San Gabriel Mountains. This will be a full day at 1 or 2 locations. We will hike up a dirt “locked” fire road near old Rincon Campground. We will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Vons Shopping Center parking lot located in the southwest corner of Tustin St. and E. Lincoln Ave., Orange, CA. Exit west off the 55 Freeway at Lincoln Ave. Rain Cancels.May 28, 2016 San Diego County, off Hwy 8, Various Sites
Meet at Wendy’s Restaurant located at the west corner of Alicia Parkway and the I-5 Freeway in Laguna Hills, CA., at 7:00 a.m. All Day. Return in Evening. June 11, 2016 San Bernardino Mountains, off Hwy 38. This will be a full day at 3 or 4 locations. We will stop at several spots along and off Hwy 38 in the San Gorgonio Wilderness Area. We will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Vons Shopping Center parking lot located in the southwest corner of Tustin St. and E. Lincoln Ave., Orange, CA.
